Haifa fire update Midnight Saturday night

There were two funerals Saturday for prison guards who were killed. 19 more are to be buried on Sunday.

The fire is still burning in four places: Nir Etzion, Hai Bar, Usfiyah and Har Shokef. The fire is actually getting stronger in these places.

US-supplied plane that can operate at night and carries 80,000 liters of water arrives on Sunday.

Homes in Haifa area ordered to keep windows and blinds down, stay in the house, and run air-conditioning to keep the smoke out. The blinds here make a house totally dark inside.

They're adding 1,000 police and fire fighters to try to control the fire on Sunday. The police will also act to prevent looting.

Two 'Israeli-Arabs' from Usfiyah will be brought for remand on Sunday in court. They are suspected of leaving a burning nargila in the forest, which caused the fire. The fire fighters are now saying that the cause of the original outbreak of the fire was that negligence and not arson. However, other fires that have broken out since in the area were arson.

What's incredible is no one in Israel's government thought of setting money aside to give the Fire Service the personnel and equipment it needed.

That will change in the wake of this disaster - hopefully make it easier to prevent a recurrence of a wild firestorm like this one that almost engulfed the Haifa area over the past few days.

The guards will be in our memories and our prayers are now for the life and recovery of Haifa's Police Chief Ahuva Torner.

Let's hope for more good news in the days to come.
