Zoabi petitions the High Court

'Israeli Arab' MK Hanin Zoabi, who was stripped of her rights as an MK for her behavior aboard the Mavi Marmara last May, has petitioned the High Court of Justice demanding that her extra rights as an MK be restored.
The petition, filed in conjunction with Adalah and the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), claimed that the Knesset exceeded its authority and acted against the law of immunity, which prohibits abuse of the rights and immunity of parliament members if they engage in political activity.

The petitioners also claimed that the denial of Zoabi's rights creates a dangerous precedent, allowing representatives of the majority in the Knesset to punish members representing the minority, which goes against the immunity law's purpose - defending the equal freedom of all parliament members to engage in political activity.

Back in July, the Knesset voted 34 to 16 to strip Zoabi of some of her parliamentary privileges including: the right to hold a diplomatic passport; her right to subsidized legal counsel in the event of criminal proceedings against her over her participation in the flotilla, or for any related future offenses; and any extra privileges she could enjoy as a member of Knesset traveling overseas.
The point was that what she did was so egregious as to deserve punishment. What the government should do is to put her on trial for treason.

Carl don't your hold waiting for the Israeli government to put Hanin Zoabi on trial for treason.

The odds are far better Israel's leftist Supreme Court will order the Knesset to restore her rights and privileges as an MK before that ever happens.

What could go wrong indeed

"Political activity"? -- No, being aboard the IHH terrorist flotilla was an act of terrorism and nothing less. If Zoabi was too stupid to realize this [doubtful] all the more reason for her to be limited in her activity [it might even be a reason, a great reason, for her to be forced out of politics].
