Don't expect Obama to lead opposition to Durban III

Nearly three weeks ago, I reported on plans for a third Durban conference in New York City planned for September. Durban III, which is planned to 'commemorate' Durban I (which took place ten days before 9/11, a fact which is probably not a coincidence), is to take place during the United Nations General Assembly meeting so that heads of state can be pressured to attend. At the time, I wondered how the Obama administration would react. We now have an answer to that question.
But Patrick Ventrell, a spokesman for the US Mission to the UN, told the Post on Thursday, “The US does not support the decision to hold the 10th anniversary of the Durban I Conference in New York City in September 2011. We do not believe it would be an appropriate time and venue.”
Let's parse that. "The US does not support - but won't oppose - the decision to hold the 10th anniversary of the Durban I conference in New York City in September 2011. We do not believe it would be an appropriate time and venue."

But the event itself is okay?

How about "we oppose this event because Durban I is not worthy of commemoration."

How about "we oppose this event because we are opposed to events that foster anti-Semitism."

How about "we oppose this event, and we won't allow this event to take place in New York City or anyplace else on American soil."

How about "we oppose this event, and if you hold this event, we will withdraw (all financial support) from the United Nations."

What the **** is wrong with America? Why can't anyone speak straight anymore?
