Surprise: 'Palestinians' demand a pre-condition

Secretary of State Clinton specified in her announcement on Friday that the 'direct talks' between Israel and the 'Palestinians' would be held 'without preconditions.' The 'Palestinians' don't seem to have heard that.
The PA is demanding a continuation of the government’s freeze on Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria as a precondition to direct talks with Israel. Likud MK Ofir Okinas said in response that if the PA does not come to the talks with clean hands there is no reason for Netanyahu to fly off to Washington next week to inaugurate the negotiations.
I suspect that the PA will be given some off the record assurances and the meeting will go ahead. The question is who will give those assurances and what they will say. The last thing we want to see is a long-term extension of the freeze.

Israel should give up nothing without a concession being given in exchange. But the Jews are lousy at haggling in the bazaar and Abu Bluff figures he might as well try to get the Stupid Jews to give him a freebie anyway to keep him in talks in which he has no interest.

What could go wrong indeed
