Fareed Zakaria: Hezbullah's respect for Jews could be a model for Americans concerned about Ground Zero victory mosque

Somehow, I missed this last Sunday. On CNN, Fareed Zakaria hosted a debate about Ground Zero victory mosque. It ended with a monologue in which Zakaria seemed to imply that Hezbollah’s "respect" for Jews could be a model for Americans concerned with the mosque plans.

Let's go to the videotape. A transcript and more follow.

And now for the "Last Look." With all the talk about places of worship and where they do and don't belong, I wanted you to see this. This is the Magen Abraham synagogue. It's not in Miami. It's not in Tel Aviv. It's in Beirut. That's right, Beirut, Lebanon.

The synagogue is just now emerging from a painstaking restoration project. When the repairs began over a year ago, the temple was literally a shell of its former self. So why did this nation, often teetering on the brink of religious hostilities and hostilities with Israel, restore a Jewish house of worship? To show that Lebanon is an open and tolerant country.

And indeed, the project is said to have found support in many parts of the community, not just from the few remaining Jews there, but also Christians and Muslims and Hezbollah. Yes, Hezbollah -- the one that the United States has designated a foreign terrorist organization.

Hezbollah's view on the renovation goes like this. "We respect divine religions, including the Jewish religion. The problem is with Israel's occupation of Arab lands ... not with the Jews." Food for thought. Thanks to all of you for being part of my program this week. I will see you next week. Stay tuned for "Reliable Sources."
CAMERA points out:
[Zakaria's] more immediate point — that Hezbollah respects the Jews and is merely opposed to Israel’s "occupation of Arab lands" — dramatically misinformed viewers about the radical and anti-Semitic nature of the Lebanese terror group. Hezbollah has repeatedly made clear not only its opposition to Israel’s very existence, but also its contempt for Jews.
Indeed. Read the whole thing.

I'd be curious to hear why Zakaria allowed the truth to be so distorted. I used to think he was a relatively straight shooter. No more.

A synagogue without Jews! Charming. Remember that in WWII, as the Nazis collected and slaughtered Jews, they also collected artifacts from the synagogues and sent them to a big warehouse. They were intending to save them for a museum dedicated to a depraved race. After the war, many of the damaged Torahs had to be buried as befits a sacred object. Many others were stored at the Westminster Synagogue in London and refurbished by scribes and loaned to synagogues around the world. I visited the workroom in London once. We have one at our synagogue from Schlehot (sp?), a deleted village in Czechoslovakia. We looked for the name of the village on the list on the big blocks at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, but couldn't find it, so it must have been tiny.

This Beirut synagogue may be Lebanon's museum similar to what the Germans wanted to do.

Fareed, really, if you want to fact check the "peaceful" groups in Lebanon before citing them as an example to the U.S., perhaps you could show photos of the JCC in Buenos Aires, Argentina after the truck bomb that killed 85 and wounded more than 300. Or even just point out that the Lebanese Army, interspersed with Hezbollah and the UN, assassinated the commander of an Israeli landscaping crew working on Israeli land just last month, despite the certified nature of that border.

These things make my stomach turn because I can't figure out the reasoning that excuses these things.

Fareed Zakaria is creepy. Everytime I've seen his show, I get a palpable feeling that I am watching Obama's Ministry of Acceptable Thought.

He did a special on the Mumbai terror attack. NOTHING was said about the Chabad attack, let alone the despicable acts perpetrated at Chabad.

Zakaria is the son of an imam and a die hard Islamo agit-prop. For years he's been telling the American public to not take notice of Islamic terrorism, he told American voters that voting for the O-bastard would make the Muslims love us and a whole lot of imbecile BS that is nothing short of trying to sedate a baby with candy...

Zakaria is no different from Tariq Ramadan or Rashid Khalidi or any of the taqiyya doctors who are pulling the Islamo-wool over the eyes and ears of naive infidels and interfaith Jews.

Revolting that this Asshole is allowed to write for TIME and gets a show on CNN.

Just look at him! He reminds me of Mohammed Atta!
