Now they tell us: Russia warns us on Iran

After dragging out the adoption of sanctions for months and weakening them to the point of ineffectiveness, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is now warning that Iran is close - very close - to being able to
produce a nuclear weapon.
During a meeting of international ambassadors in Moscow, Medvedev said "Iran is moving closer to possessing the potential which in principle could be used for the creation of nuclear weapons."
The statement was a rare public admission by the Kremlin that Iran may have the intention of building a nuclear weapon. Reuters said the statement came after an argument with Iran over Russia's support of sanctions against Iran.
Thanks for telling us.

Well... it's either a long overdue revelation, in which case their prior footdragging on sanctions makes no sense,or it is a provocation. Could Russia be trying to stir the pot? Goading Israel into an attack? Would their petroleum revenues spike in the ensuing chaos in the Gulf?
