Mitchell visits Kerem Shalom, calls for Shalit's release
On Wednesday, US Special Middle East envoy George Mitchell visited the Kerem Shalom crossing point from which Gilad Shalit was kidnapped four years ago and called for Shalit's release.
The United States Special Envoy for the Middle East, George Mitchell, visited the Kerem Shalom Crossing to the Gaza Strip where he received a briefing by Major General Eitan Dangot, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), as well as from other officials in the COGAT unit.
The unit promotes humanitarian issues, infrastructure projects, and economical projects opposite the Palestinians through the application of government policies in factors pertaining to civilians.
In his remarks, Special Envoy Mitchell recognizes the security concerns Israel faces from the Gaza Strip and welcomes Israel’s expansion of the Kerem Shalom Crossing’s capacity to let more trucks into the Gaza Strip every day. In addition, Special Envoy Mitchell condemns the abduction, detention and treatment of the IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, and calls again for his immediate release.
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004.
