We look like shlemiels
A shlemiel is a clumsy bungler, an inept person, butter-fingered; dopey person (as opposed to the shlemazel - on whom the shlemiel pours his soup - who is Luckless person. Unlucky person; one with perpetual bad luck. After the absurd order given on Monday to use paintball guns and the failure to use real weapons for the first 40 minutes of Monday's raid, the IDF look like shlemiels. Philip Klein has some important advice about that.In the wake of the flotilla incident, Israel has managed to look weak and confused, while still earning the condemnation of the world. We saw this on a much larger scale in the 2006 Lebanon War, as then Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's indecisiveness hindered the operation against Hezbollah, and triggered the fury of the international community anyway. With Obama in the White House, Israel has lost its one reliable ally. Israeli leaders would be better off simply concentrating on getting the job done right, rather then attempt to win over a world that is consumed with hatred for the Jewish state.Another comparison that could have been made is to Ehud Barak's response to the first several months of the intifada - at which time he was tossed out of office.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has a decision to make: Does he want to respond ot Arab provocations like Barak and Olmert did, and get our butts handed to us on a silver platter, or does he want to kick the Arabs' butts like Ariel Sharon did until 2005?
That seems like a no-brainer to me, but Netanyahu has apparently been afflicted with the disease of the Left and has morphed into another Ehud Barak.

Trusting of the internationals, maybe. Or caving to Clinton/Obama pressure, maybe. But shlemiels? Please. It was a lynch mob waiting for them. My question is whether the U.S. Jewish organizations will call for an investigation of the Code Pink/Ayers/Doehrn connection to this attack on Israel and how close it got to Obama, Emmanuel, et al. This is where the shlemiel factor is, not with the IDF.

Agreed. The entire operation was bungled and Israel should have been prepared for the worst. Whoever knowingly endangered the soldiers' lives with that stupid decision and absurd rules of engagement should be shown the door. Israel is run by schlemiels who refuse to recognize the country in fact is at war with a Turco-Iranian-led terrorist coalition.
Its time for Israel's Stupid Jews to wake the heck up!
Remember that the U.K. gave night vision to Iran some years back for drug interdiction in the mountains. Now the IDF has faced night vision capability in Lebanon in '06 and now on this ship. Some (40?) of the "aid workers" on the ship are being identified as al-Qaeda.

There wasn't enough blood shed for you?? Harretz claims there was too much. Not enough churning of antisemitism? Not enough boycotts and world wide condemnations? Both arguments smack of self-loathing fueled by nothing more then political BS.
When I opened the article to read it there was a pop-up from Michelle Malkin who not only defended Mel Gibson of the libel (to which you forget we have suffered dearly for) but commended him on his brilliant film. Furthermore, I have proof all those slamming Obama now kept quiet on the issue of Jerusalem, swiss cheese, peaceful palestinians, contiguous and viable PA state, daily humiliation, settlements, etc.,etc., when Bush was in office. Not even a peep when he formulated the quartet for peace which is made up of 3 possibly 4 seriously anti-Israel/Antisemitic entities.
Indeed the axis behind the very clever ship of humanitarian terrorist is indeed run by the Turco-Iranian-Hezbollah-Hamas-peaceful Fatah. I'll give you that.
What you don't see however is the blame should not go entirely on the backs of the terrorists/disguisers of peace (promoters of all of Israel, Jerusalem) but their enablers.
I squarely blame it on both past and present U.S occupiers of the oval office who are/were bereft of the smallest shred of decency to tell the truth.
Once again, both sides prefer to stand squarely on their political sides of the spectrum when in fact both sides mirror one another in their self loathing.
Yesterday Fox News quoted article after article from Haaretz. Who knows, perhaps today they will quote the thread calling Israel, 'shlemiels.'
Don't worry folks who are now throwing accusations at Obama. (even though he is greatly deserving of those accusations) You once suffered from extreme willful political blindness when the shoe was on your foot. I know it and so do others who decided for the real good of Israel to walk from the political arena. Please know you will get your assent to heaven but not without a price.
...and by the way. Israel did not walk into this looking like Shlemiels, they were pushed into it, just like they were pushed into cattle cars while the leaders of the free world watched.
We have no friends, that is the trouble. You can all write how 2 percent of the entire population of the U.S should stand up and support Israel as though it would make any difference. Our supporters write about this to distract from the fact their voices were silent for 8 years cause their guy (mine too) was in office. Same ones claim it was lack of Jewish support in America for nothing being done to save 6 million. In fact while six million were being led to slaughter most American Jews had just recovered from the desperation of the great depression and were living i without spouses (who were fighting in ww2) trying to raise kids absent of fathers while trying to put food on the table while suffering one of the worst sieges of American Antisemitism from the right. When all that ended and Dad came home it was about finding work and being denied bank loans because the guy was Jewish. When he made it and tried to send his kids to ivy league schools they were denied. Ditto country clubs and for most part the Republican party.
We never learn. We just separate from each other and continue to self-loathe while we are used and abused by friends and foes alike.
I pray each day those around me have the courage to walk from the shackles of politics and toward each other. Even with differences we are one and stronger then all the rest.
Does anyone actually understand what nomatter is trying to say?
I don't...and I have read it twice (boy that was painful!)
