Sanctions would stop S-300 sale to Iran?
There have been reports here and on Israel Radio that the sanctions proposal introduced to the Security Council by the P 5+1 group on Tuesday night would prevent the sale by Russia of the S-300 anti-missile defense system. The sanctions resolution allegedly forbids the sale of defensive weapons to Iran. But does it? According to the Wall Street Journal, the sanctions resolution bans the sale of specified conventional weapons, on of which is 'missile systems.'
But on the other hand, the resolution 'urges' rather than requiring countries to comply. Russia knows the difference.
What could go wrong?
