Inspection funding was to legalize 'outposts'?

On Thursday, I blogged a report that on its sixth try, the Knesset Finance Committee had passed funding for more inspectors to enforce the 'settlement freeze' in Judea and Samaria. Land of Israel lobby chief Zeev Elkin says that all of us missed the point.

Coalition Chairman Ze'ev Elkin said Thursday that the media missed the point in its coverage of Wednesday's vote by the Knesset Finance Committee to authorize a budget supplement for building inspectors for the Civil Administration for Judea and Samaria.

Interviewed by Arutz Sheva's Hebrew service, Elkin, who also serves as chairman of the Land of Israel lobby, said the committee only approved funding for the inspectors to carry out surveys of unauthorized communities with an eye to gaining authorization for them. He added that the committee was compensating for action taken by former defense minister Amir Peretz against such surveys.
Dear MK Elkin, We would love for this to be true. Now, please prove that it's true, and demonstrate to us how you plan to make sure that the funds are "only used for carrying out surveys of unauthorized communities with an eye to gaining authorization for them." Please, we would like to believe this.
