Eight Senators express concern over US ambassador to Syria

Eight Republican Senators have sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressing concern over the possibility that the United States will return an ambassador to Syria. The eight are Jon Kyl, Pat Roberts, Kit Bond, Tom Coburn, John Barrasso, Mike Johanns, Robert Bennett, and an eighth whose name I cannot make out for certain, but looks to be Jim Inhofe. The letter is below.

You can see a clearer copy of the letter here.

There are a lot of good reasons why sending an ambassador to Syria is bad policy. Let's hope the Republicans can prevent it from happening.

I agree, it was a miserable ill-begotten idea for our narcissistic president to send a US ambassador to Syria.

However, we see the roads of appeasement and inaction are one in the same. They lead to the same point.

Syria is still one of the most dangerous terrorist states on the planet. It is that way because nothing came of any of the threats and toothless condemnations lobbed toward them.

We know for sure what does not work and what emboldens that terrorist entity yet we are willing to settle for what didn't work just because it was less ill-begotten. Hmm.

The problems with Syria are at the same junction they were a decade ago.

The only difference is Syria is 'more' unfraid today.

We need to look hard at all the reasons why our stance with Syria has failed so miserably. Just saying one guy is worse than the other is all politics and nothing more. Perhaps one day in the event we are blessed with a strong candidate for President we can remind him a man of teeth not just words is the man who 'will' undoubtedly save the world.
