Hezbullah to join the Security Council

Prime Minister Netanyahu apparently understands Hezbullah.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed addressed the security situation along Israel's border with Lebanon during a meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday, saying that the Lebanese militia Hezbollah was taking the place of the Lebanese army as the country's major military power.

"If in the past we viewed Lebanon as a secondary military power," Netanyahu said, "today Hezbollah is the real Lebanese army, and it has replaced the actual Lebanese army as a major force that is arming itself and training like any other army."

"The Lebanese government and Hezbollah are becoming intertwined," he added. "They are the ones who would be held responsible for any attack on Israel."
Unfortunately, Lebanon Hezbullah will join the United Nations Security Council as of January 1, 2010. The 'Palestinians' are thrilled.
Speaking after a meeting with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the fact that Lebanon will become a member of the UN Security Council beginning next month will "promote the Palestinian issue."
Unfortunately, the respectability accorded to Hezbullah by its membership on the Security Council probably makes it more likely that the United States, the United Kingdom and other Western countries will seek ways to 'engage' with it.

What could go wrong?

Indeed. Hezbollah will have achieved a feat even Israel has never been able to do: get elected to the UN Security Council.
