My Twitter account has been hacked!

My Twitter account has probably been hacked. If you receive a direct message from me, please ignore it. If someone knows how to get this to Twitter's support people, please do it.

How this happened: This morning, I received a direct message from a big blogger I know. When I opened the message, Firefox said it wasn't recognized and urged me not to continue. That's usually enough to scare me off. Not this time. I opened IE (which I rarely use) and pasted the link there.

Consequences: Many of you who follow me on Twitter probably received 'direct messages' from me tonight. Please ignore them. I also received a follower that was a pornography site (in case you're wondering why someone would want to do this). I blocked that account. There will likely be more.

If anyone is an expert on Twitter and knows how to resolve this, please drop me an email.

UPDATE FRIDAY 1:58 AM

I believe that I have resolved this (check the comments to see how).

I apologize to any Twitter followers who got 'direct messages' from me today. Please ignore them.

Rachel,

Thanks. That was helpful.

Fortunately, it did not send any Tweets, but it sent dozens of direct messages over the course of the day today. My apologies to anyone who got one.

A lot of Facebook & Twitter accounts have recently been hacked or phished. Just do a search.
