If Netanyahu gives a speech, does anybody listen?

The Washington Times' Lanny Davis wonders whether anyone was listening to Prime Minister Netanyahu's June 14 speech in which he proposed giving the 'Palestinians' their own state reichlet.
One would have thought his speech would have been big news in the U.S., Europe and elsewhere. Mr. Netanyahu for the first time clearly stated he would support a two-state solution, albeit with understandable requirements to guarantee Israel's security, despite leaving a different impression during last month's U.S. visit.

Yet, the reaction of governments and media in the U.S. and Europe was the functional equivalent of a tree falling in the forest with no one listening. Where it was covered, the writing emphasized the cynical and focused on the half-empty, rather than the half-full, glass.
I'd like to say that it's because the world finally understands that giving the 'Palestinians' a state reichlet isn't a game changer, and that the world finally understands that the 'Palestinians' don't want to create a state ('Palestine'), but rather to destroy one (Israel). That would be a good reason for not having a reaction to Netanyahu's speech. I'm not naive enough to believe that anyone aside from Israel's Right understands that.

The real reason that there is no reaction is because the world is waiting to hear that Netanyahu and Israel have surrendered and that all they have to do is negotiate the terms of surrender. They are waiting for Netanyahu to apologize on behalf of the Jewish people for having the gall to return to our land after more than 2000 years in exile, to offer to turn the land over to the 'Palestinians,' to compensate the 'Palestinians' for the time that we have lived here, to return to the countries from which we came, and for those who no longer have countries from which they came, to go to 'refugee camps' in Alaska.

Anything less than that isn't on the world's radar.

Fortunately, even Bibi is not likely to offer that anytime soon.

Its not going to happen. The vast majority of Israeli Jews are not prepared to surrender. This is after all the Jewish nation that went to war twice with the Roman Empire to regain its independence.

Israel is not going to Cry Uncle to the world.

What could go wrong indeed
