France summons Israeli ambassador over Shepherd Hotel
The French foreign ministry summoned Israeli ambassador Daniel Shek on Thursday and lectured him about Israel's construction of 20 apartments for Jews at the Shepherd Hotel in Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. French Foreign Ministry spokesman Eric Chevallier said Thursday that Ambassador Daniel Shek met with the ministry's political director on Thursday.I think Israel ought to recall Shek for 'consultations' in response. After all, I'm sure Prime Minister Netanyahu needs an in-person update about what was said. (For those who are not familiar with diplomatic-speak, there are three ways to express displeasure with another country's actions. From least serious to most serious, they are calling in the country's ambassador, as France did to Shek today, bringing your ambassador home for 'consultations' as I am proposing and cutting off diplomatic relations altogether).
According to Chevallier, "An immediate freeze in settlements, including in east Jerusalem, is indispensable for preserving the two-state solution and allowing the resumption of negotiations."
Chevallier added Shek was also informed that "Israel should open checkpoints regularly to allow the reconstruction of Gaza."
The French ministry expressed concern over difficulties it says French diplomats have experienced in getting around the West Bank because of security measures imposed by the IDF.

Israel should recall its ambassador and summon the French ambassador for a dressing down. This is no way to treat a sovereign country and France has no business dictating to Israel over Jerusalem!
