About Me
- Name: Carl in Jerusalem
- Location: Jerusalem, Israel
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004. You can contact me at: IsraelMatzav at gmail dot com

"Still, most do clerical jobs that many say are pointless." And then Ha'aretz ignores that even if many jobs are pointless (I can attest to that) - it doesn't matter. It's about responsibility, one that everyone has, and must fulfill.
The problem now is that this Levy sociologist is right in her conclusion - "Will it help over the long term? The answer is no - because we see a growing number of women who think army is not a place for them."
The solution to that - is jail. These dodgers have committed a number of crimes, and before commencing military service - should spend a few weeks in the brig. The same should be done with regards to fictitious marriages. Maybe that will deter the next Bar Refaeli.
Oh - just saw this is from the AP. Of course it is. Then again, of course Ha'aretz just reprinted an AP article, disregarding actual content...
Its funny to hear the Left laud draft dodging and then whine in the same breath that bringing Gilad Shalit home at any price is strengthening the IDF! I don't think Haaretz is reporting on girls dodging army service out of a sense of patriotic obligation. Its not called the Hebrew Palestinian daily for nothing.
