I know: Let's have an election

You may recall that one of the reasons that suit-and-tie-clad 'Palestinian Prime Minister' Salam Fayyad resigned was to pave the way for Presidential and Parliamentary elections in the 'Palestinian Authority' no later than January 2010. Based on today's numbers, some people may want to reconsider that plan. A poll released in the 'Palestinian Authority' shows that if elections were held today, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh (pictured) would be elected President and Hamas would once again win control of the parliament. Yes, even in the West Bank Judea and Samaria.
The latest poll, which covered more than 1,270 Palestinians, was conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in the West Bank last weekend.

The poll, which has a margin of error of 3%, also showed that Hamas's popularity among the Palestinians has increased in the aftermath of Operation Cast Lead.

The previous poll, which was conducted last December, gave Hamas only 28%, while the current one put the movement's popularity at 33%.

The pollsters did not offer any explanation as to why Abbas's popularity plummeted from 48% last December to 45% in March. Three months ago, Haniyeh received only 38%, while this time he got 47%, the poll revealed.
But a 'Palestinian' election may also be Marwan the Murdering Moron Barghouti's 'Get out of jail free' ticket.
However, the poll showed that if jailed Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti were to run against Haniyeh, he would win by 61% to 34%.
Meanwhile, Hamas is joining the Internet age by launching its own web site.
Hamas has launched a new Web site in the West Bank in what is seen by many Palestinians as an attempt to enhance its presence in that area.

The new site, called omamah.org, will serve as an official Hamas mouthpiece and will document human rights violations and arrests carried out by Abbas's security forces in the West Bank, a Hamas operative told The Jerusalem Post.

He said that this was the first time that Hamas launched its own Website in the West Bank, which is under the control of the PA and Israel. The official said that "for security reasons" he would not be able to reveal the exact location of the site.
Got to let Dr. Rusty know about that. Heh.

A Palestinian reichlet controlled by Hamas! That's the logic of the two-state solution mindlessly supported by just about every Israeli politician in the know. An Iranian-controlled satellite on Israel's doorstep.

Someone should let Dr. Rusty know its a heckuva deal!

Heh

They should have new elections. Let Hamas take over and let them start bombing Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. How long do you think Bibi would be able to hold back the IDF if that was to happen. The whole of the West Bank and Gaza would then belong to Israel and once again the Arabs would be crying about the big, bad Israelis. But this time the Israelis would not care about World Opinion. Why should they when Hamas started it.

Findalis,

I shudder to think of the casualties if Hamas were allowed to start bombing Tel Aviv and Jerusalem - I lived through 2000-04 in Jerusalem.

And even after Israel re-liberated Judea and Samaria, it is likely that the moonbats will still demand to return it to the 'Palestinians' (including many Israeli leftists).

I'd rather not go there to start.

Carl is right - no Israeli is going to go there. A Hamastan on two sides would be the beginning of the end of the Jewish State. It would be reckless of Israel to entrust her security in the hands of a hostile Palestinian regime.

That's all that really needs to be said here.
