Comic relief: How (not) to check a potential mate
A word of explanation about the Shidduch system is in order. While there are variations as to who does the matchmaking, who does the asking and how much they ask in advance, in the community in which I live, children generally do not date until they are ready to marry and once they do date, it is with the goal of finding a mate. Because they generally do not socialize with members of the opposite sex, they typically meet their future mates through what would be known in general society as blind dates. Typically, someone scrutinizes each side on behalf of the other side (and sometimes even has veto power or something close to it) before the couple meets.Except for the fact that the questions are WAY off the wall, this parody of the Shidduch system is otherwise quite realistic. I've been the guy in the car asking questions for my children on numerous occasions.
Let's go to the videotape (Hat Tip: Debbie R.).

LOL @ the federal min. security prison answer.
Missing was whether she wears a house robe to the Shabbos table or not. That is sadly not a joke in certain circles of fools.
The true course of love never did run smooth...
I like the old-fashioned way the best. Just have her mother and his mother get together, talk the couple into a date. Works every time!
Shy Guy,
I've heard another big one is whether her mother puts disposable plastic over the table cloth of the Shabbos table.
And for guys a big one is whether he wears tie shoes or loafers (apparently loafers are 'bad' unless the guy is a Kohain).
What? No distinction between loafers with or without tassels?
A shondah!!!
Funny, as soon as I mention that I'm a Bronx Science alumnus, no one bothers asking me any of these questions.
