'We can all do whatever we want the day after the elections'
Tonight, Mrs. Carl went to a debate among representatives of most of the major political parties in the upcoming elections, sponsored by theMrs. Carl reported that although the event was called for 8:00, she arrived there at 7:30 and the doors were locked at 7:45 because the Great Synagogue - where it took place - was full! (Apparently the same thing happened with a mayoral candidates' debate in November).
Her two overwhelming impressions from the evening were disappointment with the Likud candidate - Benny Begin ("a man of integrity - I don't know what he was doing there" - that's Mrs. Carl's comment with which I agree) - who kept saying things that sounded wonderful but with which his party disagrees, and a comment at the end of the evening by the Kadima candidate to the effect of "nothing we say here matters, because once the elections are over, each party can do whatever it wants anyway."
That's a theme I'm going to hit on in the next post, but I wanted to get this out for all of you.

In Israel, politicians promise and the day after, they do whatever they want.
