I think Sharon had potential but once he had his strokes the peace process was doomed. Olmert is a complete milquetoast and utterly corrupt. Sharon was a fighter and would not have taken all of this crap and 2nd Lebanon would have been VASTLY different, IMHO.
Robert, Sharon was a wicked man, whose scheme of destroying the communities, homes and livelihoods of over 8000 Jews for nothing in return but disaster will be his legacy in hell. As they say in Hebrew, "Yatz'ah Secharo B'Hefsedo", "his reward was nullified by his loss". May he rot. In fact, that's just what he's doing. Just as in this world, so too in the next.
YTBA, that video's been out for a number of years. There's another similar or "sister" video but I can't find it right now.
Sharon sold out his country for his pocket. And I doubt the Second Lebanon War would have been different under him because the left still would have had all his corruption to hold over his head.
יש קונה עולמו בשעה אחת ויש מפסיד עולמו בשעה אחת Sharon wiped out all his merits by the crimes he committed against the Jewish communities of Azza and the great damage he caused by turning loyal citizens into enemies of the state. Aside from the land he gave away and the danger he put us in, the societal wounds that he caused will take a very long time to heal.
First let me preface my comments that I have a very limited view on Israeli politics (since I am an American). However I am working on the aliyah (not that it means anything).
With the above caveat....it has been my observation that once an Israeli politician becomes well...PM or older...then tend to be much more willing to sacrifice land for an illusion of peace. This is something that Sharon has fallen victim too..but he is not the first. Anyone willing to achieve peace at damn near any price is a fool.
However, does not negate their past accomplishments - it just means that they are a fool at present.
Any Israeli politician who sells out his own countrymen deserve to be placed in the 9th level of Hell. However, that place is going to be filled with more individuals than just Sharon. It seems many MANY Israeli politicians will be joining him there.
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004. You can contact me at: IsraelMatzav at gmail dot com
