About Me
- Name: Carl in Jerusalem
- Location: Jerusalem, Israel
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004. You can contact me at: IsraelMatzav at gmail dot com

Wow... Gay B'Nai Essau Wanna bees.
Can't they find anything even more Un-Jewish to do in their spare time?
This is just an example of how sick some of our 'Jewish' brothers and sisters are... First, why are they supporting Gay and Lesbian causes instead of fighting for our homeland? Also, why are they concerned with gays and lesbians of the Muslim faith? This is really, really sick...
May the sickness leave us and the sick be healed.

i realize this is minority opinion among the orthodox, but gays and lesbians are human, and are thus entitled to human rights.
Israel provides full human rights for their LGBT population- better than America, and better than any other country in their neighborhood
LGBT Rights in Israel (Thanks, Dan)
-Gays have full rights to serve in the military
-Sodomy laws were struck down in 1988
-Full civil rights for LGBT people established in 1992
-Partner benefits for all governmental employees, including the national airline, El Al
-Partner adoption rights
-In 2007 the State agreed to recognize same gender marriages preformed abroad, similar to its recognition of other civil marriages from other countries
LGBT Pride in Israel
* Pride parades take place annually in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Eilat and Haifa. Attempts by Muslim, Christian and Jewish religious groups to stop the parades, mostly in Jerusalem have consistently been blocked by the Israeli Supreme Court.
* The first transgendered person to win the Eurovision contest was Israeli Dana International in 1998 with her song, "Diva". Eurovision is watched by hundreds of millions of people through Europe, Asia and Africa.
* Openly gay singer Ivri Lidder is agmonst Israel's most popular enetrtainers
* Openly gay movie producer Eytan Fox has become one of Israel's most important film exporters to the world, with his movies "Yossi and Jagger", Walk on Water" and "The Bubble".
* Openly gay politicians have served in the Israeli Kenneset and on the city councils of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem
You need to gear your hasbara to your audience. Discussing Israel's liberal policies towards its LGBT community works in Berkeley
Discussing the opposite- Islam's treaments of sexual minorities- also resonates.
Comeon, guys, don't tell me you couldn't figure this out on your own?
" why are they supporting Gay and Lesbian causes instead of fighting for our homeland?"
Sorry, folks, I've been fuming about this all day.
We HAVE been fighting for our homeland, and have been doing it for years, here in Occupied Northern california.
