Iran trying to get UN Security Council seat

The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked the 114-member Non-Aligned Movement to support its bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. The request was made by foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki. Iran is seeking to replace Indonesia as the Asian representative for a two-year term beginning in 2009. Iran would join Libya on the Council. Libya has been serving since January 2008. While it is likely that Iran would lose the bid to Japan, Iranian membership on the Council would offer further proof of just what a farce the UN has become.

Well... if calling for Israel's destruction is grounds for UN Security Council membership, the UN became a farce a long time ago.
