About Me
- Name: Carl in Jerusalem
- Location: Jerusalem, Israel
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004. You can contact me at: IsraelMatzav at gmail dot com

Could be. American Jews haven't had much incentive to make aliyah. Who knows, an Obama victory could shake things up.
My Israeli son-in-law asked me the question - if Obama wins, will I make aliyah.
My answer was, and still is, get rid of Olmert and his ilk first.
The threat from corrupt, incompetent, anti-religious Israeli leaders is worse, and until that turns around, Obama is no worse than the Israeli government. Get a constitution, dump the state of emergency that borders on martial law (enabling bogus charges of incitement and protracted incarceration without charges or access to lawyers for Jews and not for Arabs), stop electing and keeping in power crooks that act like Goyim, and elect Jews that care more about Israel and Jews than about what America and Europe think.
Only then would the election of Obama (or something far less) cause me to consider Aliyah.
That said, I like the bumper sticker.
Stuart,
Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?
100,000 solid, religious Western olim would make a huge difference. And by the way, it's the religious parties - fearful of losing their representation in the Knesset - who are doing more to block a constitution and direct elections than anyone else.
I don't like the sticker. What about Obama would make people want to flee America (especially more than Bush has)?
