Israel's new flag
In honor of Israel's 60th Independence Day, which will be celebrated this Wednesday night and Thursday, a group of
revenants designed the new flag pictured at the top of this post. The flag memorializes the
disastrous expulsion of Jews from Gaza and Gush Katif in the summer of 2005.
Instead of the Star of David, a picture of the destroyed Neve Dekelim Yeshiva is featured on the revamped flag.
The yeshiva, which was demolished by Palestinians after the IDF and police forcibly evacuated the Jewish residents of the Gaza Strip in the disengagement, was built with a huge Star of David.
"We hope that the new flag will commemorate the disaster committed by the Israeli government and prevent future territorial compromises," said Shay Gefen, a spokesman for the Headquarters to Save the People and the Land.
The headquarters is run by Rabbi Shalom Dov Wolpe, who has said in the past that his life mission is to publicize the opinion of the late Lubavitch Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson that any territorial compromises or expressions of willingness on the part of Israel to make such compromises endanger Jewish lives.
Wolpe has no official position in the Chabad movement.
For those whose Hebrew isn't up to snuff, it says "60 years of the State of Israel" across the top, and "the destruction of 38 years of settlement in Gush Katif" across the bottom. On the left side, it says "the synagogue and the
hesder yeshiva in Neve Dekalim," and on the right side it says "The Movement to Save the People and the Land" with a phone number I cannot read.

I have a better one.
There's not much to be happy about when Israel has a government that takes its orders from Condi Rice instead of acting like it heads a truly sovereign country.
Unhappy Dependence Day!
