What a way to run a war
Maj.-Gen. (res.) Udi Shani - who wrote the General Staff report chronicling the war during the fighting in the summer of 2006 - told Israel Radio on Friday that then-Chief of Staff Dan Halutz (the right-most figure of the three at top left, the others being Prime Minister Ehud K. Olmert and defenseless 'defense minister'Former IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. -Gen. Dan Halutz refused to listen - or did not hear - the call of several General Staff top commanders who advised on a wide-scale ground assault during the Second Lebanon War, Maj.-Gen. (res.) Udi Shani told Israel Radio Friday.Of course, a real Defense Minister might have thought to ask what other members of the General Staff were saying.
...
Shani added that members of the general staff did not convene in the war-room during the fighting. He said that overall, General Staff convened rarely during the war, and opined that this had implications not only for the performance of the General Staff but also on other fields.
Then again, I'm not sure it would have mattered: Olmert was determined to 'fight' the war as timidly as possible.

Ehud Olmert tried his hardest not to win the war. But he gave his utmost to keep his job. What does that say about his his priorities - never mind his values - as Prime Minister? Is it you or it is the nation that comes first? I guess we know what he did then and what he did in the period leading up to Winograd that constitutes a damning indictment on Olmert's tenure at the head of Israel's government.
