'Palestinians' faking power crisis in bid to open Rafah crossing?
DEBKA is reporting that both Israel and Egypt have accused the 'Palestinians' of faking the power crisis in Gaza in a bid to open the Rafah crossing point between Gaza and Egypt along the Philadelphi corridor (see maps). While the report is not sourced, it is a verified fact that Israel is continuing to supply 75% of Gaza's ordinary electricity and that Egypt supplies another 5%. While a 20% power cutback is inconvenient, it's not life threatening if the power is properly allocated. It's not the summer and they don't need air conditioning, and it's nowhere near as cold in Gaza as here in Jerusalem where it was in the upper 20's and low 30's Fahrenheit (-1 and -2 Celsius) last week. The DEBKA report would be nothing unusual but for the claim that the 'Palestinians' are trying to exploit the 'crisis' to open the Rafah crossing point into Egypt. While this is a bit of a stretch, it seems somewhat plausible. Here's what they say about it:
Sunday, Jan. 20, 59 seriously ill Palestinians were transferred from Gaza through Erez to Israeli hospitals. Another 16 were transferred Monday. If the 'Palestinians' were to gain control over Rafah and leave the crossing open, I suspect that a lot of civilians who are not involved in terrorism would try to leave, while a lot of terrorists and ammunition would pour in. The Egyptians couldn't care less about the terrorists and ammunition pouring in (since for the time being, that would be pointed at Israel), but they would not be pleased with all those civilians entering Egypt and looking for places to stay. After all, they have to maintain the fiction that there is such a thing as a 'Palestinian' and that they belong in 'Palestine.'
The same day, Hamas shut down the power stations supplying Gaza City and darkened the town accusing Israel of throwing the territory into a humanitarian crisis by halting fuel supplies.
...
Israeli and Egyptian military sources suspect that Hamas drummed up an international outcry to justify its impending operation to smash through the Rafah border crossing from Gaza to Egyptian Sinai and seize control of the border, thus terminating the international blockade of the terrorist-rule Gaza Strip.
Israel’s electricity corporation workers keep Gaza supplied with power often themselves under the Palestinian missile fire on Israeli civilian locations.
No independent organizations confirm the Hamas claim of a humanitarian crisis and hospital deaths for lack of electricity. Gaza also has adequate stocks of basic foods, medicines and fuels, although there are some shortages. Israel will therefore not reopen the border crossings for the time being. The plight of Gaza’s 1.5 million inhabitants has not reached crisis point – unlike the dwindling Israeli communities living under constant Palestinian missile fire.
Israel needs to be really careful in how it deals with this. Mubarak is not to be trusted.

As I've said before, the Palestinians should be made to take care of their own affairs. Where it is written Israel must take care of all their needs too? Even the most extreme "peace process" advocates have never made that argument.
As it stands, the Palestinians are the first people in history to demand a handout from an enemy they seek to destroy.
AND they are also faking the "bread crisis"...forcing bakeries to shut down!
You guys need to get a clue please. This article is biased and founded on no evidence at all. I suspect terrorists will cross? How about starving people? You have no conscience whatsoever to be supporting what your government is doing. And if you want to talk about hand outs, lets talk about the aid that you recieve in the form of billions from the US government. It is your responsibility to be kind to your neighbors and to stop blowing them up, increasing your settlements illegally across the 67 borders.
I'm sure you will censor this becuase you are only interested in Pro-Israeli comments, but be warned that with the free flow of information today there is MOUNTING opposition to the terrible inhumane treatment and aggression of Israel throughout the world. You guys will not get away with this for much longer and still have international support. We gave you land becuase of your opression after world war 2 and now you repay the word by enacting the same policies on arabs. For shame.
Bless these people for taking control of their lives. And what is with you guys calling them 'Palestinians'? This infers you dont believe they should exist. Well guess what, i can call you all 'Israelis'
Sincerely, an 'American'
I was asked to post this by someone at LGF:

I don't have (or want) a blogger account. But if you'd to post the below response on your blog to "nicholas" on my behalf, I'd be most grateful...

"Yo Nicholas...
Pay my electric and water bill while I shoot at your house, blow up your car, and deny your basic right to exist.
In the meantime, your attempt to equate the nazi death camps with anything in Israel, the West Bank, or Gaza shows just how morally retarded you are.
What's this "we gave you the land" shit? Have you ever actually read a history book?
They're called "Palestinians" because that's what they call themselves and what the British called them prior to 1948 you uneducated ignorant fool.
Guess what? I don't call you an American. I call you a terrorist ass licker.
A real American.
NAMED,
R"
It seems to me like you clowns have your talking points that you stick to. There is no talking to fanatics like yourselves on a reasonable level. You've debased yourself by breaking down into ignorant attacks and insults. what a shame you guys have so much influence on my government.
The american people don't want to support your holy war anymore. You're not a real american. you're a clown.
Get lost buddy. Or respond to my whole post, not just your wonderful talking points that you explode on the second we challenge your bullshit lifestyle in Israel.
