Barak and Jumblatt to meet in US
The Syrian Sham Press, which is apparently an Arabic web site, is reporting that Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt is to meet in the US with Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak, to ask that Israel pressure the United States to topple the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad. The web site claims that Vice President Dick Cheney has 'encouraged' the meeting, which is being arranged by an American of Lebanese descent. Jumblatt has been criticized in the past for meeting Israelis while abroad; Lebanese law forbids such meetings.
