Lying for Islam

We in the West are presented with two very different views of Islam. Reconciling these perspectives involves answering some difficult questions:

How can Islam simultaneously be a "Religion of Peace" and yet the source of Jihad and terrorism?

Why does English-language material on Islam take the "Religion of Peace" perspective whilst much Arabic material speaks of Jihad?

Why is there so much material in English about Islam when English is not the first language in any Muslim country?

Are our politicians and media being dishonest when they claim that Jihadis are "perverting Islam"?

How can the very same individuals produce violent Jihadi videos for Muslims and yet speak in English of the "Religion of Peace"?

The answer to all of these questions lies in the Islamic concept of 'Taqiyya'.

This video explains how this practice is used in Islam's interactions with the West and describes how the 20th century creation of the idea of 'moderate Islam' is a result of it.

The centerpiece of this clip is provided by Walid Shubat, a Palestinian and self-confessed ex-Jihadi, who provides a rare insight into the use of Taqiyya from the perspective of a practitioner.
