Jerusalem refuses to name street after Leibowitz

For the third time in four years, the City of Jerusalem - my city - has refused to name a street after Professor Yeshayahu Leibowitz. Leibowitz, an Orthodox Jew and Professor at Hebrew University, compared IDF soldiers to Nazis and the Western Wall to a discotheque. In 1993, Leibowitz was selected to receive the Israel Prize, but he declined the honor after then-Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin refused to participate in the ceremony.

The proposal to name a street after him was rejected 10-5.
