Breaking: Massive explosion in Beirut

Israel Radio just reported on its midnight news that a massive explosion took place in Beirut a short time ago. No word yet on casualties.

Just after the news: about fifteen minutes ago, there was a massive terror attack in East Beirut in a district of movie theaters. It's not yet known how many casualties there were or the circumstances (they don't even know whether it was a suicide bomber or a car bomb). Lebanese television just started broadcasting from the area. At least one building has completely collapsed, others have been damaged and a massive fire is burning.

Earlier today, more than forty people were killed in clashes between the Lebanese army and al-Qaeda affiliate Fatah-al-Islam. More details here and here.

Lebanese television is blaming Syria for both sets of events.

Update 12:23 AM

This is the latest from al-Reuters:
An explosion was heard in eastern Beirut late on Sunday, and a security source said an explosive device had detonated near a shopping mall.

"There was an explosive device either under a car or next to a car," the source said, adding it took place in the car park of a popular mall in a Christian district in east Beirut.

A Reuters witness who heard the explosion said a plume of smoke could be seen rising from the area.
In a subsequent report they say at least one person has been killed.

Israel Radio's 1:00 AM newscast reports at least two people killed.

'Work accident'? Soemone was really a klotz. I assume it was Christians, sadly, that were targeted.

Lebanon isn't blaming Israel, and actually names Syria?

Amazing.

Bigger problem still remains george bush. And, his relationsip with the Saud's. We've got 600 or so days left, until January 20, 2009. While the good news is that Olmert continues to hold onto his seat.

Arik Sharon HATED James Baker! Yet, whose leading Bush by the nose? He looks like a camel in the saudi tent by now. And, off to the side? While this goes on, Condi can't come in and tell Israel she has to remove her "barriers" and road blocks. (Part of the reason for this?) Back in 1991, every time James Baker tried to poke Israel in the eye; Arik built another settlement on the West Bank.

At least you can see why James Baker has set out on his road to "treating that shitty little country" to his estimates of what would also make the saud's happy.

While Lebanon's terror is PAID FOR BY THE IRANIANS, NOW. Who are also stirring the pot. Looking to capture Iraq's oil fields. Which gives the Saud's some competition, I guess?
