Russian foreign minister: Goldwasser and Regev alive and well

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov told an Israeli delegation this evening that Russian intelligence indicates that kidnapped IDF reservists Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser are in good physical condition. According to Lavrov, Russia is making 'great efforts' to gather intelligence on Goldwasser and Regev from Syria and Iran, and will pass any information obtained on to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

During the meeting with the Russian foreign minister, Ehud Goldwasser's wife Karnit, who is travelling with the delegation asked Lavrov to take action to win the release of the two soldiers. Lavrov reiterated that Russia is involved in the UN's efforts to bring about the release of Regev and Goldwasser, as well as kidnapped IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit. He could not, however, elaborate on specific contacts Russia is making.

Karnit Goldwasser mentioned rumors she heard that the soldiers had been wounded and asked Lavrov to promise her that he would verify they had received proper medical care. Lavrov promised to continue his efforts.
