Security cabinet opposed to expanded ground operation

The JPost is reporting that most of the 'security cabinet' is opposed to an expanded ground operation, which the IDF has requested. This is not good. The government is 'center-left' and as a result, most of the 'security cabinet' is center-left to left. Furthermore, not all of the members of the 'security cabinet' have experience in military matters. Watching them override the army's recommendations is not comforting. Also, in light of Hezbullah's weapons deployment in the Bekaa Valley, it seems unlikely that Israel can vanquish Hezbullah without a ground operation there. A ground operation may also be necessary in Tyre in order to put a stop to Katyusha rockets raining down on Haifa.

All in all, the 'security cabinet' decision shows a lack of intestinal fortitude (I would have left the decision in the army's hands) and possibly the beginning of the end of Israel's new-found deterrence capability of the last two weeks.

Iran is coming in for the kill with the help of Hizbolla and Syria.

What is the matter with these fools?

Do they plan to bleed Israel to death?

A border incident with Syria ought to be easy to create.

The destruction of Syria would be a boon to America and Israel and leave Iran isolated.

Any idiot could figure out the geostrategic implications.

Yes there will be vigorous rocket attacks from Syria. The death toll will be horrendous.

However, waiting will not make things better.

Iran declares war.

Iranian suicide bombers to destabilize Lebanon.

The war is coming. Will it be on Israel's terms or Iran's?

Carl,

How do you get a no confidence vote?

Is it a good time for that?

I read recently that the IDF is both one of the greatest and one of the most disorganized armies in the world, meaning that very few people actually follow orders.

This is the time for the IDF to take on one of Israel's most controversial Biblical tedencies: stiff-neckedness. Now is the time to be stubborn and go against the grain, just like Gideon.

May HaShem turn our curses into blessings!

PATTON:

"I don’t want to get any messages saying, “I am holding my position.” We are not holding a Goddamned thing. Let the Germans do that. We are advancing constantly and we are not interested in holding onto anything, except the enemy’s balls. We are going to twist his balls and kick the living shit out of him all of the time. Our basic plan of operation is to advance and to keep on advancing regardless of whether we have to go over, under, or through the enemy.”

“From time to time there will be some complaints that we are pushing our people too hard. I don’t give a good Goddamn about such complaints. I believe in the old and sound rule that an ounce of sweat will save a gallon of blood. The harder we push, the more Germans we will kill. The more Germans we kill, the fewer of our men will be killed. Pushing means fewer casualties. I want you all to remember that.”

“There is only one tactical principle which is not subject to change. It is to use the means at hand to inflict the maximum amount of wounds, death, and destruction on the enemy in the minimum amount of time.”

“Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

I must say, your newspapers are even worse blabbermouths than ours.
M. Simon is right. It's General Patton time. No, better: Under the circumstances, it's Bomber Harris time. Otherwise your brave country will never have peace and quiet.

Patton is a personal hero.

Fantastic quotations from a fantastic man.

"Better to fight for something than live for nothing."

"If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking."

"No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

"Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more."

"Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory."

"Infantry must move forward to close with the enemy. It must shoot in order to move…. To halt under fire is folly. To halt under fire and not fire back is suicide. Officers must set the example."

"May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't."
