DEBKAfile: Syrian pilots sitting in their cockpits

DEBKAfile is reporting that on Thursday, Syria placed its army on war preparedness, and pointed Scuds at Israel. According to DEBKA, since Thursday, Tehran has controlled the Hezbullah side of the Lebanon War.

According to DEBKA, Tehran’s direct military intervention in the conflict was accompanied by an Iranian weapons airlift which began landing Wednesday, July 19, at the Abu Ad Duhur military airfield north of Homs, Syria. The deliveries include large quantities of new missiles, including the long-range Zelzal and Fajr 3 and Fajr 5 missiles, Katyusha rockets, anti-tank and anti-air missiles sent out from Royal Guard Headquarters in Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf.

According to DEBKA, Syria acted on the assumption that Israel will soon decide to go after the Iranian military operations in Damascus and Abu Ad Duhur that are being used to re-supply Hezbullah. My guess (not DEBKA's) is that Israel is going to seek approval from Secretary of State Rice during her trip here to go after those shipments - in Syria if necessary, but from the air only. I cannot see Israel widening the conflict into Syria without at least tacit US approval.

The deliveries were made to the Abu Ad Duhur airfield because it belongs to the joint Iranian-Syrian Scud missile factory which employs a large number of Iranian engineers and technicians.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that some of the Iranian arms have reached Hezbullah in Lebanon notwithstanding intense Israeli cutoff operations and their impact will probably be palpable in the coming days.

That doesn't sound very good....

Think of every other war the State has been in...we're always fighting them on our territory. At least now, we can bring the fight to them.

Continuing to pray for HaShem's merciful victory in Yisrael...

Actually, that's not correct. The last war (not including the 'Palestinian intifadeh,' which was a kids' game compared to this) that was fought on our territory was the early part of the Yom Kippur War thirty-three years ago.

Mea culpa. I was mainly referring to our miraculous victories in '48-'49 and '67.

I'm always going to be a fan of offensive war, but now that I think about it, if you look at the history, the most amazing victories are the ones that happen on our own land. The game has changed, though; if we're talking unconvential warfare with dirty weapons, as Israpundit indicates >>http://www.israpundit.com/2006/?p=1938<< we can't risk any further invasion by air (rockets) let alone land. It's got to be fought on their territory this time.
