Gilo IS a Target for Terrorists
Last Wednesday, I asked whether Gilo, the Jewish neighborhood on the southeastern corner of Jerusalem, which overlooks Bethlehem and Beit Jalla, would again become a target for terrorist fire, as it was during the early days of the most recent Palestinian terror war against Israel. It now appears almost certain that the 'Palestinians' do intend to target Gilo again. The IDF has uncovered a 60mm mortar launcher with eight shells aimed at the Jerusalem suburb of Gilo, according to sources who quoted Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) chief Yuval Diskin Monday morning.
Diskin, who spoke to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, reportedly told the MKs that the discovery marked the first time a ballistic weapon had been aimed at Jerusalem. The mortar had been stolen from an IDF base.
The ISA chief also reportedly called Hamas's proposed ten-year hudna (ceasefire) a "honey trap," saying that despite their recent hints of moderation, Hamas posed a long-term strategic threat to Israel.
The terror organization's ultimate goal, Diskin emphasized, was still Israel's total destruction. If a Hamas state was allowed to rise, he predicted it would be a magnet for global jihad organizations.
