Israel Radio reports (4:00 pm) that approval has been granted by the Regional Planning and Building Council for the Jerusalem area to add one room onto each of 2,000 existing apartments in the Jewish neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo in Jerusalem.
I can hear the State Department reaction already. But I have a lot of friends who will be very happy about this.
Dumb question #384: How do you add a room to an apartment? Is it While You Were Out, taking down walls and moving them? or are they townhouses with room in the tiny yards for an addition? or townhouses with strong enough structures to add another floor on top? Just curious.
Carl, with their recurring need to rectify some far off and fantastic crime of infamy and betrayal, maybe the A&C routine should be "Slowly I Turned"....
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004. I imagine the State Department and the Palestinians are going to be upset.
But since Israel is committed to a united Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, they need to be told its none of their business where Jews live.
Deal with it!
Sparky,
You're thinking of Abbot and Costello.
There's a story on the talks' cancellation going up about 6:20 Israel time (I've already got posts in the queue for several more hours).

Carl, how are the apartments configured such that it is possible to add one room to every single apartment in the neighborhood?
Are they adding onto the sides of the buildings or something?
I love the idea and I'm sure it's going to be helpful to all the families living there. I'm just wondering what makes it possible.
Thanks.
