Abu Bluff pushing for US support for UN 'settlement' condemnation

It was to be expected that 'moderate' 'Palestinian' President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen would seek US support for his move to get the UN Security Council to condemn Israeli construction of Jewish cities and towns in Judea and Samaria. But what really bites is the basis for his request.
Abbas says the Palestinian draft used the "same words" as US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has in criticizing settlements, and he "doesn't see why" the US would veto the move.
Abu Bluff made his statement in Brazil, where he attended a cornerstone laying for a new 'Palestinian embassy' and where he will attend the inauguration of the country's new President.

Unfortunately, Israel's condition is precarious on this one. I expect that we will be condemned. Hopefully, the condemnation will not carry Chapter 7 (mandatory) sanctions.

Hopefully if Obama expresses his inner O-ness and lets the condemnation go forward Bibi will at least begin to think about getting ready to draw appropriate conclusions. The theory has been that a defensive withdrawal from PA zones with the tactical pluses of security arrangements (official and under the table) on the ground outweigh the PA's wedge diplomacy, isolating Israel from the US and EU and pushing forward for unilateral gains at Israel's expense. That math is off. Israel is playing checkers and the PLO is playing GO.

Israel is under assault and Israel has been pulling its punches. The PA has no interest in making peace with Israel. Its moves in the UN are about isolating Israel. One wonders if the message is registering in Jerusalem.

What could go wrong indeed
