Rivlin tells Carter Israelis see him as supporting Hamas

During a tour of the Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan on Thursday, Knesset speaker Ruby Rivlin told former President of the United States Jimmy Carter that Israelis see him as supporting Hamas. Carter had his pictured taken in Damascus hugging Hamas politburo chief Khaled Meshaal on Wednesday. Carter claimed that he only listens and that he doesn't support. Funny, I never knew you have to hug someone to listen to them.

Rivlin, whose head is on quite straight, more than held his own with Carter and the Elders.
Rivlin said that Jews and Arabs in Jerusalem live side by side. He made the comments during a tour that the delegation did in the east Jerusalem village of Silwan.

"There is no way that the city can be divided, a step like this will turn Jerusalem into another Belfast," Rivlin said.

Rivlin slammed suggestions that the Jews are allowed to live in a large area of Palestinian sovereignty.

Ireland's former President Mary Robinson claimed that legislation in Israel includes dozens of bills that are racist towards Arabs. Rivlin explained that Arabs do not serve in the IDF, for understandable reasons, and in light of this there is a preference to those that serve in the army for a number of different topics.
Nice try, Ruby. But they won't listen to you anyway. Their minds were made up before they came here.

Rivlin was the only Israeli Jew with whom the Elders met.
