Republican Mormon Senator writes Chanuka song

Senator Oren Hatch (R-Utah) has written a song about Chanuka together with Madeline Stone. It's performed by Rasheeda Azar.

Let's go to the videotape.

Eight Days of Hanukkah from Tablet Magazine on Vimeo.

You can read the story behind the song here and here. This is from the New York Times:
Known around the Senate as a prolific writer of Christian hymns and patriotic melodies, Mr. Hatch, 75, said this was his first venture into Jewish music. It will not be his last.

“Anything I can do for the Jewish people, I will do,” Mr. Hatch said in an interview before heading to the Senate floor to debate an abortion amendment. “Mormons believe the Jewish people are the chosen people, just like the Old Testament says.”

In short, he loves the Jews. And based on an early sampling of listeners, the feeling could be mutual.

“Watching Orrin Hatch in the studio, I said to myself that nothing this great will ever happen to me again,” said Alana Newhouse, the editor-in-chief of Tablet.
We're still waiting for the first such venture from a Jewish or Democratic Senator.

That's pretty decent. It won't overtake "Oh, Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel", but it's cute.

Will Hatch light a Mormonorah?

I am a fan of Oren Hatch policies however as a Jew I am opposed to the Mormon Church baptizing Jews by absentia.

The real issue remains.Jew or Christian, mouthing platitudes with no bite is absent of honest responsibility to Israel.

Where was Oren Hatch and others each time Bush axed the embassy act? Where was Hatch during the intifada when Bush formed the U.S led Quartet for Peace made up of arch enemies of Israel? Was Hatch admonishing Bush out loud for rewarding the intifada by lavishing billions upon those who killed our families? Did Hatch speak out when Bush heaped praise upon Abbas in the rose garden calling him a man of Peace? Did Hatch expose Bush for being a freaking hypocrite while at the same time conservative Jews were blinded by calling Bush the best friend of Israel?

Everyone has their agendas however when it really comes to protecting Israel all I hear is words. Forget writing Jewish songs. We don't need it. Sadly we are so bloody hungry for anyone to stand with us that we take our eyes off of reality. In the end, actions alone will save Israel, not words and not even pretty songs.

Why is there a delete comment on my post and not on Shy Guy's?

Surely truth should not hurt when truth is spoken!

George Bush laid the ground work (Think of the metaphor of building a house atop a foundation) for H.barak obama enemy of Israel to once and for all tighten the nails on our coffin!

Go back to the ZOA archives of when Bush decided to screw us and see for yourself.

I ask you, did Oren Hatch ream Bush a new one when ZOA pleaded with Bush to admonish Abbas for running to Beirut to congratulate Kuntar followed by a rose garden visit?

My points are not only valid but true. To place a little garbage can beside my comment is simply denial of truth.
