Good news: Venezuela acquires 'thousands' of missiles

Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez announced on Monday that his country has acquired 'thousands' of missiles from Russia in preparation for possible armed conflict with Colombia and/or the United States.
"They are preparing a war against us," Chavez said during a televised address, repeating a charge he has been making for months. "Preparing is one of the best ways to neutralize it."

Both Colombia and Washington deny having any plans to attack Venezuela, but Chavez argues they are plotting together a military offensive against Venezuela. Chavez says his government is acquiring more weapons as a precaution.

"Thousands of missiles are arriving," Chavez said. The former paratrooper-turned-president did not specify what type of missiles, but said Venezuela's growing arsenal includes Russian-made Igla-1S surface-to-air missiles and rocket-propelled grenades.

...

Chavez also said Monday that Russian tanks, including T-72s, will be arriving "to strengthen our armored divisions."
If Israel has to attack Iran, which is Chavez's ally, to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, does anyone really expect Chavez to sit on the sidelines?

What could go wrong?

We may be at the cusp of World War IV and its like the calm before the storm. No one thought the European conflict in 1914 would turn into a world war. One thing is for sure: American and Israeli policies are not likely to see this calm last for good.

I hate this enthusiasm for a massive destruction of cities, homes and families. I would rather saw a regional guarantee for prevention of attacks based on respect to the diversity of cultures. I would like US and Israel to see this endless dynamic of preventive attacks may give them some tactical advantage but in the long term means erosions of civilized and modern principles.

Chavez have many reasons to be preventive. This is not the first time Venezuela have to confront a threat, but the difference now is the scale. It is pulling more conflicting interests on the tray. What we need is help to created the necessary guarantees of "peace" by no using the bastard trick of "preventive attacks".

I love Venezuela, it's a wonderful country that has found a way how to solve the most challenging problems by solidarity and cooperation.
