Uh oh! Peres holding secret meetings with Erekat

Israel's President Shimon Peres held a secret meeting with chief 'Palestinian' negotiator Saeb Erekat last week at the President's residence in a bid to get 'moderate' 'Palestinian' President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen to meet with Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Obama on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting next week in New York.
"This opportunity must not be allowed to pass," Peres told the Palestinian negotiator. "I am asking that you tell Abu Mazen [Abbas] this. He needs to attend the meeting at the UN."

Peres acknowledged that "there may be differences on the subject of the settlements and other issues, but they will be resolved. The most important thing now is to renew the talks as soon as possible."

The president also put forth a number of ideas regarding the possible path that the talks could progress on. For example, Peres believes that it is possible to reach agreement on a number of issues in a short while, especially on matters pertaining to borders.

The office of the president refused a Haaretz request for further details on the discussions between Peres and Erekat.
Peres believes it's possible to agree on borders in a short while? Based on what? The failure to reach an agreement for the 'Palestinians' to take over 90% of Judea and Samaria in 2000 at Camp David, in 2001 at Taba and in 2008 from Olmert? He's got to be kidding.

Regardless, because Netanyahu is Prime Minister and not Peres, it looks like there's a good chance that this meeting in New York won't happen. The 'Palestinians' will yet again not miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
However, a diplomatic source who spoke with senior Palestinian Authority officials, including Erekat, said that in spite of the enormous pressure being applied on Abbas, he refuses to agree to a meeting with Netanyahu unless Israel announces a complete construction freeze in the settlements and East Jerusalem.
Someone needs to remind Abu Bluff that six months ago he was negotiating with Olmert without any freeze in place.

No matter. This is all the Obumbler's fault. If he hadn't raised the demand for a freeze in the first place, Abu Mazen would never have picked up on it.

Heh.

No. This is all Notein-yahu's fault, for not telling President Hussein to shove off.

Saeb Erakat is just a water carrier for his boss. His boss has no interest in meeting Netanyahu or even negotiating with Israel. Peres is simply delusional. Unless something unexpected happens, there will be no meeting this month with the Palestinians.

For the record, since Netanyahu already announced there will be no complete settlement freeze, the chance the Palestinians will moderate their position range from slim to none.

Heh

I'm with Shy Guy on this one. Bibi needs to learn how to say "No" loud and clear.

Whatever the case, I have a feeling that Dear Leader's pet rottweiler, Rahmbo the Ballerina, may have made some pretty foul threats to Bibi & Co. Bibi is about to learn that however much he bends toward Dear Leader Hussein, he, meaning Israel itself, will still get kicked in the teeth.

Just wait till DL Hussein chairs the opening session of the Security Council. We are in for a very rough ride. We are about to face the same treatment as S. Africa, where there was real apartheid and real human rights abuses, not trumped-up charges and outright lies as those against Israel - and S. Africa never faced annihilation.

Shalom Karl,

Given the tiny distance between Ramallah and the Beit HaNasi, why is it so complicated to set up reunion between Peres and Abas?
Would there be a lack of willingness from abbas?
Same remark for Bibbi Abas meeting
NY is far and expensive
Kol tov and Hag Sameah,
