Video: Bolton on whether Israel will attack Iran

Former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton appeared on Fox News Sunday morning by telephone. He was asked about potential Iranian responses to an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities (in light of Friday's disclosure of a 'massive' Israeli dry run) and said that Iran's options were not as good as they are generally believed to be. Among other things, while they would never say so openly, Bolton says (correctly) that most of the Arab countries would be happy to see Iran's nuclear capability destroyed.

Bolton was also asked about the timing of a potential Israeli attack. Bolton said he believes that it would come after the US Presidential election but before the inauguration - in other words between November and January. Funny, I said that too.

Let's go to the videotape.

Lefty blog Think Progress looks at this as Bolton beating the drums of war (Hat Tip: Memeorandum). I disagree. We Israelis appreciate the danger to us from an Iranian nuclear weapon, and as much as we love John Bolton here, no one needs him to tell us that the one country that cannot live with an Iranian nuclear weapon is Israel.

Exactly. Carl - if you're right about the timing it will happen before the Israeli elections in November. If Ehud Olmert is the one still making the decisions after the Talansky testimony resumes next month, he could be the political beneficiary of an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilitiies. Everything in Israel now is about political calculation - especially rehabilitating a discredited government.

One thing learned from last year's war with Lebanon was that there was little to fear from Iranian missiles in the hands of Hezbollah.

Israel has little to fear from Iran directly since it's to far away to accurately attack Israel. But now Israel knows that it can attack Iran with impunity. What will Iran do? Give thousands more missiles to Hezbollah that will kill only tens of Israelis?

From my article Israel Won in Lebanon - Iran Lost: Israel can safely do to Iran what they did to Iraq back in 1981.

I tend to think that Israel will allow Iran to garner Nuclear weapons, and then suffer from the consequences.

C'mon, missiles and rockets are currently raining down on Israel and her populace, and no one cares. Israelis are like frogs in a pan on a stove....by the time the water is boiling it is too late. This government of appeasers is backed up by an electorate unwilling to defend their own territory or soldiers. Bernie, with all due respect, you talk like you know something-but everything I see from Israel is falafel and latte consumption.
