I'd like, however, to voice my objection to this post.
In essence, if i'm reading this correctly, what you are doing here is jabbing at islamic Tzniut laws. And while their dress code is more severe,in a sense, than our own,a secular observer would find them only moderately more objectionable.
So while I understand why a site like LGF-another top notch blog in the the sane region of the blobgosphere-pokes fun at things like this,I cannot fathom why you would.
For the record,I'm no islamophile.I believe we should wage war on our enemies in the fasion commanded by Torah(see Rambam:laws of kings and their wars).
Even so, Islamic "tzniut" is different from Jewish tzniut: excessive, to the point that, as you can see in that photo, women totally lose their identities, each looking the same as the other.
Ishmael repented, but in his repentance turned to hyper-correction of his previous way of life. That's why Muslims pray more times a day than we do, that's why they take the prohibition on pork to go as far as pig-shaped toys and piggy-banks, and that's why the Islamic dress code for women goes beyond the righteousness of guarding their modesty and into the oppression of depriving their very selfhood.
What makes their laws objectionable? That they are made up.
Excessivness is not the distinguishing factor.
Our Kashrus and Shabbos laws are cases in point.
If Hashem would have told us through Moshe that our women were to dress as those depicted in the picture, or that we were not allowed to own piggy banks, ect,we would obey.
Many of our laws seem excessive to a secular observer.
"what is occupation" the moslim world is not allowed to murder jews as they will soon discover. And you(lehavdil) are free to poke fun at them for any and evrey reason you see fit.I just think its a stupid policy.
Your points aren't necessarily in contradiction to mine.
Why are their laws excessive? Because they're made up. The divinity of our laws is manifest in, among other things, what King Solomon said, "Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace" (Proverbs 3:17).
The Koran's way is not a way of pleasantness, and, as the Pope has (intentionally or not) shown, none of its paths are peace. Because it's man-made.
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004. Hi Carl.Thank you for all your good work.

Funny thing, it's ok for the islamic world to MURDER jews, let alone poke fun at them..
the PROBLEM is that the islamic world LACKS humor..
they MURDER over cartoons..
so, yes, the photo is funnier than anything..
When islam can take a joke and not murder, then the picture will be not be needed

That photo is both amusing and ironic.
The irony, lost to most Muslims, is of an electronic digital camera of the 21st century recording Medieval custom and oppression.
