The 41-year-old linesman reportedly beaten up by three football players of Moroccan origin aged 15 and 16 after a football match in Almere at the weekend has died.Insane? Yes. But so is suicide bombing.
Richard Nieuwenhuizen was chased and attacked by the youths from Amsterdam club Nieuw Sloten after an amateur football match between the Amsterdammers and Almere club Buitenboys.
He became ill a couple of hours after the attack and was taken to hospital where he was put into an artificial coma. He was declared dead on Monday afternoon.
...
The Dutch football association is investigating the attack. It issued a statement on Monday evening saying 'it is too insane for words that someone enjoying a hobby is confronted with such aggression.

It was reported on CNN last weekend. I don't know if it was posted on their website. CNN made zero reference to who attacked him other than they were, and I quote "children". The crux of their story is that soccer clubs are a near religion in Holland and 'everyone is upset' about this in that handwringing let's bring out another poor black child and/or puppy sentiment that CNN excels in and that it's somewhat a force of nature that no one will ever understand let alone solve or prosecute.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it isn't even a coach, but a REF! If he got sick later, then probably a head injury? In the U.S., we've had problems with idiot parents getting into fights with each other at their kids' soccer games. And the refs leave kid games *instantly* when they are over to avoid the parents. But I can't say that I have heard of *players* acting like that. Although it doesn't look like it was their own team that was playing in the game. It sure doesn't take many people refusing to act civilized to ruin things and make the world a small and limited existence.
